Last week, Friends of Moreland Woods met in person — and on site — with FPG’s developer and landscape architect. Because FPG’s current application includes the construction of a new parking lot that would require removal of 25% of the mature trees, we wanted to make strong suggestions for alternatives that would save them.

We were backed up by Mark Lakeman, a local architect and longtime Sellwood resident, whose presence helped FPG’s team (and us) to visualize different ways to create room for cars next to the mausoleum while still protecting the Woods. FPG’s team seemed open to our ideas, and said they would get back to us with some alternative designs.

This is encouraging. We’ll keep you posted as to what happens next.
